A new Toastmasters International group named College Driven’s Gavel Club is available to local teenagers. Membership is free and open to all high school teenagers from all communities. The Club will apply the same Toastmasters programs and principles used in helping adults become more competent and comfortable communicators in front of an audience. College Driven hopes students are able to understand the positive benefits such an organization can have on improving their communication and leadership skills. Parents should encourage their high school teens to attend at least one meeting to find out more about the program.
An added benefit to teens joining College Driven’s Gavel Club is the opportunity to take on various leadership roles within the organization. The student-led Club is looking for teens to fill various officer positions. Lilana Slater, owner and founder of College Driven, stated, “Today’s colleges and universities like to see their applicants apply themselves to some activities outside of the school’s own offerings. The effort shows initiative on the part of the student and a desire to improve one’s self in an area important to professional growth.” Ms. Slater continues, “Without capitalization or punctuation, a simple message in the form of a Text has become the preferred communication amongst teens but is really not an acceptable practice in the professional world. If teens today are not practicing formal communication, speaking and writing well, then their future success may be limited. Great communicators reap great success.”
College Driven’s Gavel Club meets every 2nd Tuesday of the month at Solon Public Library, 34125 Portz Parkway, after school from 4:00 to 5:00. All communities are welcome. Come have fun, learn, improve, and join for FREE*! *Membership dues applied.
